Hi,

Will there be support for the earlier version of Microsoft Word's DOCX format specifically 2010?

It's just that we still have a lot of customers still using Microsoft Office 2010, and it's commercially in our best interest to support them. We're also trying to move towards a 64bit architecture and want to dump support for Windows ActiveX and COM which only works if Office is installed on the same machine as our WinForms application, and is the same 32/64bit architecture.

I am aware of going the PDF rendering option, which we may need to implement in the interim, but just want to encourage you to consider supporting 2010 as a lot of small businesses in Australia are still on Microsoft Office 2010, as cloud isn't really a viable option yet with our crummy broadband offerings.

Cheers.

Microsoft has an answer to this question. The recently released Office 365 updates include a feature intended to allow DOCX files from 2010 and 2003 versions of Word to be read and edited.

The new feature in the Office 365 is called Compatibility Pack for DOCX 2010 and 2003, which operates on a plug-in system that can be turned off or on. This compatibility pack is not available as an individual download but it is included with the March 2018 update for Office 365 ProPlus desktop apps.

Microsoft Word DOCX format is one of the most commonly used formats for document storage. In this format, macro-enabled Microsoft Office 2010 are required. But with the introduction of Microsoft Office 2013 and Microsoft Office 2016, there has been a lot of concern about whether or not DOCX files saved in these versions can be opened in earlier versions of Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Word 2010 is a word processing application developed by Microsoft and launched in the year 2010. It is the successor to Microsoft Office 2007's Word, which is now an office suite. The DOCX format was introduced in 2007 and has been used as the default format for saving files since then. Beginning with Office 2010, there has been support for both DOCX and DOC file formats.
