So this question came up during a training session in my company where we are using GdPicture for the document viewer in our product and we can't find it explained anywhere online.

What does the "Gd" in GdPicture stands for?

Thank you!

Hi Willian,

Well... Today the short answer is: nothing  .

Back to 2004: GdPicture was a one-man personal project intended to offer (freely) GDI+ access to Visual Fox Pro developers through a vfp class library (.vcx). Mostly to extend image manipulation support (some filters, tiff codec, resizing...). For such purpose, a class firstly named GDIPicture was introduced (Gdi+ Picture).

https://www.gdpicture.com/oldtimes/informations.php

As the name was not sexy, complicated to pronounce and close to other existing classes it was changed to GdPicture, like another famous guy did by renaming TheFacebook in Facebook...

The project has been then translated to different other languages such as c++, vb6, Delphi to become a mix of .NET and c++ set of libraries today.

Cheers,

Loïc
