4Bit Grayscale Tiff

Hi.
I am trying to view an image from a Canon CR-180 chack scanner with the Ranger interface. It is called a 4Bit grayscale TIff in the documentation. The Wang/Kodak imgedit.ocx will display it but XP Fax Viewer will not. I can send you a sample if you like. I need to display the image and then append it to a multipage Tiff. Since 500 to 600 images in a file are the normal size I need something fast and small. Do you have any suggestions?
